The Shandon Exchange would not be possible without the guidance and encouragement of Cork City Council, Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Office and the advocates for the development and revitalisation of the Shandon area of Cork City.

Local
Support.

“We are delighted with the news that something positive is now planned for the historic Butter Exchange building in Shandon.

SARA has been lobbying tirelessly for the past twelve years to have this Iconic building repaired and occupied. This has been our top priority and was kept at the forefront of our agenda for all that time. We welcome and look forward to engaging with Recreate Shandon team on this development and wish them well with the project.”

Geraldine McCarthy, Chairperson of the Shandon Area Renewal Association

Strategic Policy
Alignment.

The development of the Shandon Exchange at
the Butter Exchange building aligns with a highly
supportive policy backdrop and support for
innovation more broadly. This policy alignment is
not only at a local level with Cork City Council but
also at a regional and national level.

Schools
Engagement.

Recreate Shandon CLG will engage with the secondary schools in the local area to enable them to access expertise, guidance for education options, current technology and business advice with a constant focus on change.

The key ambitions for our local community involvement are to increase leaving certificate completion rates, increase uptake of college courses and drive down unemployment figures in the area.

This includes engaging with:

  • local schools and youth clubs
  • adults of working age who are unemployed
  • adults looking to upskill
  • existing companies in the locality
